YOUTH VILLAGES

Education and a safe place to live

What are the Youth Villages projects?

Youth villages create a home for Israeli youth aged 12 to 18 who, for various reasons, cannot grow up with their own families. A team of professionals helps these children become independent, responsible young adults and helps them graduate from school.

Why support the Youth Villages projects?

The increasing number of underprivileged youth in Israel is one of the most pressing social problems in the country. There are approximately 475’000 disadvantaged youths, nearly 50 percent of which come from immigrated families. They often have come in contact with abuse, alcohol, drugs and violence at a young age, which makes them suffer psychologically, socially and academically. In the four Youth Villages, they are able to get help from psychologists, teachers and social workers. This allows them to be able to concentrate on their studies once again. Special forms of therapy, such as tending to animals, helps the children to learn responsibility.

Results of this project

Nearly 1000 disadvantaged children currently live in one of the four Youth Villages. 90 percent of them are able to catch up with normal school. In national education tests, they achieve better-than-average results, and nearly 95 percent are able to join the army.
