Israel is going through one of the most difficult periods since its founding. Since October 7, 2023, a silent crisis has been brewing within the country: a national psychological emergency. The longest war in the state’s history has claimed not only many lives and left many physically injured. One of the greatest challenges in the coming years will be coming to terms with the psychological trauma that has left thousands mentally scarred.

Over the past two years, there has been a deeply alarming rise in suicides among Israeli soldiers—particularly among reservists. Mental health issues are widespread throughout the general population and affect nearly every household. A recent study by the “Maccabi” clinics (Kupat Cholim) found that the number of patients seeking medical help for depression and anxiety has nearly doubled—from 146,000 in 2013 to 284,000 in 2024, with the majority of this increase occurring in 2023 and 2024 alone.
