What is the Bar- and Bat Mitzvah Project?
When a Jewish boy becomes 13 years old, he is Bar Mitzvah. The boy reads from the Torah, a symbol of coming-of-age in the Jewish community. Girls achieve their Bat Mitzvah at 12 years of age, and then are held accountable to Jewish law. For many families, these celebrations symbolize the passage from childhood to adulthood. Not every child is able to celebrate this important rite of passage accordingly. Each year, there are about 3’000 children from Israeli families who can not celebrate their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Keren Hajessod makes a worthy ceremony possible for them at the Kotel (Wailing Wall) in Jersusalem.
Why support the Bar- und Bat Mitzvah project?
A Bar and Bat Mitzvah supports Jewish identity and is a defining moment in the life of every Jewish child.
This project is geared in particular towards families of Bar- and Bat Mitzvah children who want to incorporate this project in terms of supporting equal opportunities.
As a thank-you, each young donor receives a certificate. With higher donations, the donors are immortalized on the Young Donors Wall in the Ben Yakir Youth Village. Donating is an act of giving. It’s never too early to encounter philanthropy, and is a win-win situation for all parties involved.
