Net@

FROM HIGH-RISK TO HIGH-TECH

What is Net@?

The Net@ project offers upper school students a promising technological training. Usually, these young people come from both geographically and socially underprivileged settings in Israel’s periphery. They finish their training, which is made possible by Cisco Systems, with an internationally recognized degree as computer technicians.

why support Net@?

Despite Israel’s economic growth, and the technological advances of the past few years, there are still 1.65 million residents who live under the poverty line. A large part of this population lives in the periphery, where many families live under difficult circumstances, particularly immigrants from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia. Many youths have stopped going to school and come into contact with drugs, alcohol and violence. This has serious consequences for them, their environment and, of course, their futures.

Classes in computer technology teach them both specialized knowledge and personal responsibility. The students discover that they can – and should – give back to the community by volunteering. The Net@ project maintains classes in Nazareth, Akko, Hatzor Haglilit, Ramle, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Be’er Sheva, where Jewish, Christian and Muslim youth attend classes together.

results of this project

The Net@ project has shown to be particularly effective: the young people develop self-esteem, learn to work as a team, get involved with volunteer work and accept responsibility. Currently, 1500 youths a year are taking part in the Net@ project  in 15 different Israeli communities.
